Reading's original ReadyBikes

£100.00

The Bike That Refused to Retire

Reading's ReadyBike scheme ran from 2014 until 2019. When it ended, the bikes were quietly donated to local businesses. Most went back to work. This one went to art school.

This is one of Reading's original ReadyBikes — a piece of genuine local history — transformed by hand into a fully rideable work of art. Every surface of the coral pink frame has been covered in a meticulously applied decoupage collage of vivid botanical imagery, QR codes, bold typography and pop culture references. Phrases including "Never too old" and "My business" weave through the artwork, giving it both humour and a point of view.

The matching decoupaged briefcase attaches to the front basket bracket, carrying the artwork seamlessly from frame to carry-on.

The coral pink frame, wheels, spokes and fittings are all original ReadyBike — the same bikes that once carried Reading commuters around town. Now this one carries considerably more character.

Perfect for:

  • Art collectors who want something they can actually ride

  • Creative spaces, studios, offices and galleries

  • Anyone who appreciates that the best things refuse to be thrown away

  • Reading locals who remember the ReadyBikes and want a piece of that history

Professor Bunsen Honeydew is not included.
