A Week of Learning: Jasmine's Work Placement Journey

This June, our coworking space had the pleasure of hosting Jasmine, a Business, Art, and Sociology student on her work placement. What unfolded was a week packed with learning, creativity, and yes, an epic hunt for chocolate coins around town.

The Perfect Match

From the moment Jasmine walked through our doors, it was clear she'd be a fantastic fit. Her unique combination of business studies, artistic flair, and understanding of social dynamics made her perfectly suited to our collaborative environment. Add to that her love for walks, afternoon naps, and art, and you have someone who truly understands the importance of work-life balance in a creative workspace.

Day by Day: A Comprehensive Learning Experience

Business Operations and Introduction

Jasmine's journey began with Cheran, who took her through a comprehensive orientation. This wasn't just a simple tour - she dove straight into understanding our coworking space business model, from booking processes to meeting room management and lunch coordination.

But what really captured her interest was our approach to social media management. She learnt about posting schedules, content planning, and engagement strategies, discovering the careful balance required to maintain our online presence with just one feed post per week whilst maximising impact.

Coffee Operations and Customer Connection

Jasmine then worked alongside Chris, immersing herself in the world of coffee operations. This wasn't just about making drinks - though she did master barista skills and latte art beautifully. She experienced firsthand how customer interaction at the coffee station forms the heart of our community atmosphere.

This period also included a deep dive into stock management, learning about coffee and food ordering, supplier relationships, and delivery schedules. Jasmine quickly understood how Chris runs the coffee shop as an integral part of the coworking space, not just an add-on service.

Professional Customer Service Excellence

The focus then shifted to excellence in customer service with Andreas. This was where Jasmine's confidence really began to flourish. She learnt advanced customer service techniques, discovering how to handle different types of business clients with professionalism and warmth.

The discussions about career paths and professional development were particularly valuable, giving her insights into how different roles within our space contribute to the overall experience.

Creative Content and Practical Application

Later in the week, Jasmine blended creative and practical elements perfectly. She continued developing her social media skills whilst also lending a hand in the coffee shop, applying what she'd learnt earlier.

Bringing It All Together

The week concluded with Jasmine throwing herself into intensive social media work, creating engaging content that showcased her newfound skills. She also helped prepare for our summer party - including the now-legendary search for chocolate coins around town.

Beyond the Curriculum

What made Jasmine's placement special wasn't just her dedication to the structured learning - it was how she embraced the creative and technological aspects of modern business. She explored Canva design work, experimented with AI image creation, and even got to grips with Claude for content creation. Her artistic background shone through in everything she touched, bringing a fresh perspective to our social media approach.

The Chocolate Coin Chronicles

No account of Jasmine's week would be complete without mentioning the great chocolate coin hunt. What started as a simple task for our summer party became an adventure that took us around local shops, discovering just how elusive these particular treats could be. It's these unexpected moments that often provide the best learning experiences - problem-solving, persistence, and maintaining good humour when plans don't go quite as expected.

A Valuable Partnership

Jasmine’s enthusiasm was infectious, her questions insightful, and her contributions genuinely valuable. She wasn't just observing - she was participating, creating, and adding value to our team.

Her combination of business knowledge artistic sensibilities, and understanding of social dynamics made her insights particularly valuable. Whether she was analysing our customer flow, suggesting ideas for our social media content, or simply bringing fresh energy to our daily operations, Jasmine proved that work placements are truly a two-way learning experience.

Looking Forward

As Jasmine returns to her studies in Business, Art, and Sociology, she takes with her practical experience that will undoubtedly enhance her academic learning. More importantly, she's gained confidence in professional environments and a clearer understanding of how her diverse interests can come together in a career.

For us, Jasmine's week served as a reminder of the value of fresh perspectives and the importance of nurturing the next generation of creative business minds. Her ability to balance learning with contributing, to ask thoughtful questions whilst getting stuck into practical tasks, made her placement a genuine success story.

We're excited to see where her journey takes her next.
